DAILY IMPROVISATION PERFORMANCE
From february first to july 12 2011 the performer composer Alessandro Gandola did open the door of his creative laboratory. He started on the social network my space, he trasformed it in a stage on wich, with a delay of 24 hours, every day he play an improvisation performance, or as he prefer to call it: an Extemporaneous Music Art Performance.
"Every morning, just before to start play I trough a couple of dice, the arithmetic result gives me the KING note with whom I will open and guide the music that I will play. Before to think I start to play... every note calls the following one... the direction of every thing is coming from my istinct, my intuition and my feelings in that moment. Nothing is writen... every things is happening in the moment... one istant after the other... one note after the other... catching the stars... in the absence of any predetermination. The duration of every performance is not longer then 15minuts, some times the first is good, but if I am not satisfied, I will start again in a different way, until I will reach the satisfaction of my personal expressive canons of sensitivity, intensity and beauty."
From may first, after a pause of two wecks for tecnical seting up, the laboratory moved to youtube, in video format, starting from the recent new chapter: the polyphony. Improvisations recorded with an immediate sequenze, one after the other and one on top of the previous ones, without any listening pause in the meedle. The five performances, recorded from april 12th to17th, called Archangels, have opened the new series of daily improvisation.

"Thre years ago, for give a name to the musical territoryes on wich me and Giovanni Sollima togheter realized the album Astrolabioanima, I create the words composing improvisation, In this new solo adventure, that name is not appropriate for describe the experience, because in the musical composition excists rules that dont contain me. In this experience I am not related to any teoric musical forms known by me or to any musical composition types. Music is made by sound substance and I treat the sound as a solide element, etheric material to mould. “
In this way take birth the Extemporaneous music art experience.
LAST UPDATE:
From May 7th the polyphonic daily performance, in homage to the italian writer “Italo Calvino” is getting the title:“ INVISIBLE FORMS”. 55 daily performances, called with the names of the 55 cityes of the book “ INVISIBLE TOWN”.

Its a creature in evolution, its a working progress performance, it's happening with the support of the lap top, and it will move from solo to poliphony.

When the music really touches... is not question of higher volume or virtuosity...when the music touches... the eyes ask to be closed... maybe this hapen... because music is made by sound and as the ancient indu and egyptians texts says:
“sound is not a conseguenze of a material event... but...it is the primary phenomenon”...

A couple of dice give me the king note of the performance. Nothing is prepare nothing is decided in advance, every note call the following one
Emptyness...
a gesture...a look...a thought...
emptiness...
an istant...an eternity...saliva in my mouth...asking for a meaning...other then the digestive one...
A wet reed...tighten lips and teeth..for control the blow... that comes out from the chest...and the reed vibes...and the blow becomes sound... and a chant take birth...and the fingers design a melody... that full fill the emptiness...

Lets say that the silence is a white canvas... the painter spread the colors on the canvas... and every time the colors obedient stay where the brush will pose it... the painter create and at the end...when he stop... there is a paint, a piece of art.
The musician...in a solo performance, is in front of the silence... as the painter is in front of the white canvas... but the similarity end up here... the musician is inside a multidomesional white canvas... I plunged myself into the silence...and when I blow a musical note...I paint the silence... or I give form to the shapeless silence... but the silence is an absorbent canvas... in one way the sound is its food... the silence absorbe every sound... So I keep blow the note until I have breath... but when I finish the breath... the note immediately start to vanishing into the silence...

Music is made by sound substance and I treat the sound as an ethersolid material to mould. I dont create songs... I create ethersolid sounding forms dancing in the air
Blowing, the glass craftsman. create forms of glass... me blowing, I create forms of sounding air, and thanks to the modern recording tecnic, before that the silence will absorbe them to dead, I can capture them in the precise moment of there appearance, when they still are pure sounding creature living from my breath...
I wrote that they appear, because the difference between me and the craftsman is that I dont have in my mind a form to create, because play a free extemporaneous performance means that nothing is prepared in advance: a chance, a risk must be taken, I have to be confident, in intimacy with my saxophone, and I move through the alea, the realm where intuition, istinct, feelings and knowledge give togheter the best of them self into taking to life new musical ethersolid forms of beings... sounding beings.
Up to here I am describing a solo performance... but with the modern tecnology, immediately after the vanishing of these sounding beings in the silence... I can project there sound in the air... as a sound pictures... and on top of there sound pictures... I can improvise a new performance... and the procees can be repeated many times... in this way, starting from a pure solo performance I will end up in a polyphonic extemporaneous performance of Sounding forms dancing in the air.
